Recording is one tap, and everything else in Craft (your debrief, your coaching, your follow-up) builds on it. This page covers the recording itself: starting it, using Checkpoint during the appointment, and getting audio quality right.
Start the recording
Open Craft and tap the microphone button on the home screen. That’s it. Record every appointment, not just the ones you expect to go well — the uncomfortable ones are where the coaching lives.
Turn on auto-start so recording begins automatically when you arrive at the appointment. It removes “I forgot” entirely.
Checkpoint: your halftime, mid-appointment
While recording, you’ll see Slide to Checkpoint at the bottom of the screen. Swipe it at a natural break (while the customer steps away, or before you present pricing) and Craft analyzes everything said so far:
- A summary of the conversation up to that point
- A read of the customer’s communication style
- Likely objections, surfaced before they come up
You can also ask questions: “What was the dog’s name?” “What did she say about timing at the beginning?” Use it to build rapport and adjust before the close.
Three things to know:
- The recording keeps going. Swiping Checkpoint doesn’t pause or stop anything; it analyzes in the background while you keep working.
- Swipe as many times as you want. Each Checkpoint re-analyzes everything up to that moment.
- What’s shown is customizable — your team’s admin chooses what appears in Checkpoint results.

After the appointment
End the recording and your debrief arrives within minutes: two things you did well, one opportunity for improvement, your score against your team’s process, and analytics like talk speed and talk ratio. Your notes and follow-up sync automatically — nothing to type.
Getting clean audio
- Microphone up. Phone in a shirt pocket, pants pocket, or belt holster with the microphone facing up, never down.
- Hold still while walking and talking. Fabric rustle is the most common audio problem; if you’re having a conversation on the move, hold the phone rather than letting it brush your pocket.
- AirPods or a Bluetooth mic work if you want even cleaner pickup, but for most people the phone alone captures everything.
Troubleshooting: recordings stopping or not starting
Recording stops partway through
Two common causes: low device storage (free up space, then retry) and magnetic tablet cases — a magnetic cover or strip can interfere with the microphone and pause the recording. Remove or replace the case.
Recording never starts
Check the microphone permission (Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone on iPhone; Settings > Apps > Craft > Permissions on Android) and make sure the app is up to date. Older devices (iPhone XR era and before) struggle; use a current phone or tablet.
Audio is muffled or hard to hear
Almost always microphone placement (see above) or an overheating device in direct sun. Keep the phone shaded in the truck between appointments.
Auto-start didn't trigger
Auto-start needs location permission set to “Always.” See Auto-Start Setup and Location Services.
